What is the difference between the Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models?
All iPad models come with built-in Wi-Fi. The Wi-Fi model allows you to connect to available Wi- Fi networks to surf the web, check email, and more. The Wi-Fi + 3G model allows you to also access the Internet over 3G cellular networks — the same networks used by mobile phones — which is perfect when you’re not within range of a Wi-Fi network.
What do I need to connect to a 3G network with my iPad?
All you need is an iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G and a 3G service plan from AT&T. The service plan is sold separately.
What are the 3G data plan options from AT&T?
There are two monthly data plans: 250MB and 2GB. There’s no contract, and you can sign up and change your service right on your iPad. In addition, AT&T data plans include unlimited access to over 20,000 Wi-Fi hotspots at locations including Starbucks and Barnes & Noble.
How can I find out if I have 3G coverage in my area?
Simply enter your street address, city, and state or zip code in the AT&T Data Coverage Viewer.
Am I required to purchase a data plan if I buy an iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G?
No. When you’re ready to use 3G service, just sign up right on your iPad. You can use the built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi to access the Internet at any time.
Can I use my current iPhone service plan with the iPad?
No. The cellular plan for iPhone is separate from the iPad plan.
Can I use my iPad while traveling outside the U.S.?
You can connect to Wi-Fi hotspots anywhere in the world. Please check with AT&T regarding international 3G usage, as additional charges may apply.
Are iPhone and iPad SIM cards interchangeable?
No. Your iPhone SIM card will not fit into your iPad.
What happens when I reach my monthly limit?
As you get close to your monthly data limit, you’ll receive onscreen messages to help you decide whether to purchase an additional data plan or wait until the current plan automatically renews at the end of the 30-day period. You can also check your data usage anytime in Settings.
How do I sign up for an AT&T 3G data plan?
On your iPad, tap Settings and choose Cellular Data. Then type in your user information, select a plan, and enter your credit card information. There’s no need to visit a store or call customer service. |
